The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International’s European structure, HSMAI Europe, has reached a new agreement with HSMAI Global to develop operations in Turkey. The agreement, which comes into effect on August 17, 2026, will see HSMAI Europe develop membership, partnerships, training programs, and events in Turkey; the official market launch is planned for the beginning of 2027. One of the first steps will be the establishment of an Advisory Board consisting of hotel owners, senior executives, and commercial leaders. Planned areas of work include revenue management, sales, marketing, and distribution, as well as artificial intelligence, technology, leadership, and talent development.

HSMAI Europe is Coming to Turkey: Official Launch at the Beginning of 2027

HSMAI, a professional organization operating in sales, marketing, and revenue management in the international hospitality sector, is preparing for a new structure in the Turkish market.

The agreement between HSMAI Global and HSMAI Europe came into effect on August 17, 2026. Accordingly, HSMAI Europe will be responsible for the development and management of membership, partnerships, sponsorships, training programs, and events in Turkey. The official launch in Turkey is planned for the beginning of 2027.

The content published on Hospitality Net is more of a distribution of HSMAI Europe’s press release than an independent news article. Therefore, the terms used by the organization for the Turkish market, such as "dynamic," "significant," and similar descriptors, should be read as their own market assessment rather than performance indicators.

The First Step Will Be the Turkey Advisory Board

One of HSMAI Europe’s initial priorities in Turkey is to create a local Advisory Board.

According to the organization’s statement, the board is expected to include hotel owners, senior hotel executives, and commercial leaders. The aim is to determine, together with local industry representatives, which training, events, and professional development topics should be prioritized in Turkey.

HSMAI Europe is already expanding the Advisory Board model across Europe. In a separate call published in June 2026, it was stated that these boards are used to gather local market insights, assess developments in the industry, and shape professional training programs.

Names for the Turkey board have not yet been announced.

AI is Coming Alongside Revenue Management and Sales

The focus of planned work areas in Turkey is commercial management in hospitality.

HSMAI Europe plans to develop programs not only in revenue management, sales, marketing, and distribution but also in artificial intelligence, technology, leadership, and talent management.

This scope is particularly noteworthy in terms of changes in hotel organizational structures.

While revenue management was historically associated mainly with price and occupancy tracking, today it works more closely with distribution costs, digital marketing, direct bookings, CRM, data analytics, and automation. It is becoming increasingly difficult for sales and marketing teams to operate independently of technology decisions.

The real value of HSMAI’s program in Turkey may stem from its ability to produce training and application tools that can be integrated into hotels' daily decision-making processes, rather than merely addressing these areas as conference agendas.

Why is the Turkish Market Significant for This Structure?

Turkey’s accommodation and tourism market is one of the significant markets in Europe in terms of scale.

According to TÜİK data, Turkey hosted 15.58 million visitors in the second quarter of 2026. During the same period, tourism revenue reached 15.87 billion dollars. While the number of visitors decreased by 5.1% compared to the same period last year, tourism revenue decreased by 2.6%, and the average nightly spending of overnight visitors rose to 113 dollars.

The data indicates that the market should be evaluated not only in terms of volume but also in terms of revenue quality and commercial efficiency.

Especially during periods when visitor numbers decline, the importance of revenue management, distribution costs, segment management, and direct sales increases for hotels.

Therefore, the commercial disciplines emphasized by HSMAI have direct operational relevance in Turkey, rather than being theoretical.

Training Programs Will Need to Align with Field Needs

The arrival of an international professional organization in Turkey does not automatically mean value creation in the local sector.

In Turkish hospitality, city hotels, resort facilities, independent hotels, international chains, and small businesses have quite different commercial structures.

A distribution problem faced by a city hotel in Istanbul is not the same as the revenue management needs of a seasonal resort operation in Antalya. The staff structure, length of the season, source markets, and dependence on tour operators also vary.

Therefore, the real function of the Advisory Board to be established should be to adapt international programs to local operational conditions rather than simply transferring them directly to Turkey.

Local Professionals Will Connect to the European Network

HSMAI’s plan includes not only bringing training to Turkey but also integrating industry professionals in Turkey into the European network.

According to the organization’s statement, companies operating in Turkey will be able to become members or partners of HSMAI Europe and participate in relevant events and programs in Europe as well as in Turkey.

It is also stated that member benefits applicable at events in Turkey will be preserved for professionals who already have HSMAI membership through the Middle East or Asia-Pacific region and carry responsibilities for Turkey.

This structure can particularly facilitate cross-border information sharing for sales, revenue management, and commercial teams operating regionally in international chains.

Where is the Opportunity for Employees?

The impact of HSMAI’s arrival in Turkey on employees will depend on who the training programs will reach.

If the programs remain limited to general managers and commercial directors, their impact on the industry may be limited.

Establishing training and mentoring models accessible to revenue analysts, sales executives, e-commerce specialists, digital marketing employees, or hotel professionals at the beginning of their careers could create a broader area for professional development.

Especially in the area of artificial intelligence and automation, the need for training is increasing. Commercial teams need to learn not only to use new tools but also to interpret data, monitor results, and question the decisions of automated systems.

In our opinion, the value of HSMAI Europe’s expansion into Turkey will be determined not by the arrival of a new international organization in the market, but by whether it can create a measurable training infrastructure in commercial hospitality skills.

Hotels in Turkey often have strong operational experience; however, the level of competence in areas such as revenue management, distribution, data analysis, digital sales, and artificial intelligence can vary significantly from one establishment to another.

International information networks can help reduce this gap. However, for this to happen, training must take into account Turkey’s seasonal structure, tour operator relationships, the resources of independent hotels, and the career needs of local employees.

Therefore, the key issue to be monitored at the launch in 2027 will not be how many companies are members, but who makes up the Advisory Board, what trainings will be offered, and to what extent these programs will reach young and mid-level professionals.
